Brigitte Bardot laid to rest following simple funeral at family plot
Fans, friends, and family bid farewell today to the late French actress Brigitte Bardot in a funeral service in Saint-Tropez, in the south of France.
The service was broadcast live on large screens in various locations throughout the town, CE Report quotes ATA.
Fans were also able to follow the funeral on French television. After the procession through the town, Bardot will be buried in a family plot.
Some of the actress’s admirers gathered in Saint-Tropez this morning.
“We traveled for 10 hours yesterday to pay our respects,” one fan told France Info.
Despite the small circle of invited guests at the Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption, several well-known figures attended the farewell ceremony. The famous French singer Mireille Mathieu performed at the service.
Prominent anti-whaling activist Paul Watson also attended the service. Bardot was deeply committed to animal welfare.
Born in 1934, the actress achieved international success with the film And God Created Woman, directed by Roger Vadim.
She appeared in more than 40 films, but in the mid-1970s, at the peak of her career, she stopped acting, saying she was tired of fame.
Bardot died of cancer at the end of December at the age of 91.
According to reports, the French presidential palace had proposed a large tribute for her, but the family of the cinema star, who supported far-right nationalist Marine Le Pen, declined.
Bardot’s husband, Bernard d’Ormale, told Paris Match magazine that “Brigitte wanted a simple funeral.”
