Predator: Badlands breaks box office expectations
Predator: Badlands, the latest chapter in the sci-fi horror saga that began almost 40 years ago, devours the competition at the North American box office, debuting with $40 million.
The 20th Century Studios film, directed by Dan Trachtenberg, stars Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as an outcast Predator who, this time, becomes the hero, joining forces with an android played by Elle Fanning on an epic journey to prove his worth. It surpasses the franchise’s previous record held by Alien vs. Predator ($38.2 million), released in mid-August 2004, CE Report quotes ANSA.
In second place comes Regretting You – Tutto quello che non ti ho detto from Paramount, the latest film adaptation of a Colleen Hoover novel, earning $7.1 million. Directed by Josh Boone and set to premiere in Italian cinemas on December 4, the romantic drama follows a mother (Allison Williams) and her teenage daughter (McKenna Grace) as they face life and love after a tragedy.
Third place goes to Black Phone 2, Universal’s horror sequel directed by Scott Derrickson, once again starring Ethan Hawke as the villain, with $5.3 million in box office revenue across the U.S. and Canada.
In fourth place, Sarah’s Oil—a religious drama from MGM, directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh and starring Zachary Levi and Sonequa Martin-Green—debuted with $4.5 million. Inspired by a true story, the film follows a young Black girl in early 20th-century Oklahoma who inherits land she believes to be rich in oil.
Rounding out the top five, Nuremberg by James Vanderbilt (Sony) earned $4.1 million. The film revisits the story of the postwar Nazi trials, focusing on Hitler’s right-hand man Hermann Göring, played by Russell Crowe. His portrayal of the Luftwaffe commander is already stirring Oscar buzz.
