Prince William follows Diana’s footsteps at Christ the Redeemer statue
Prince William followed in the footsteps of his mother, Princess Diana, by visiting the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro during his trip to Brazil, recreating some of the princess’s famous photos taken beneath the monumental statue.
British media highlighted how the heir to the throne’s visit was marked by several references to Diana, who died in a car accident in Paris in 1997, CE Report quotes ANSA.
Princess Diana visited Brazil in 1991 with her then-husband Charles, who was at the time still heir to the throne, for a tour that included stops in Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, and São Paulo. During that trip, Diana was photographed smiling in a patterned white blouse, white skirt, and green belt while posing beside the symbolic statue of the South American metropolis.
William retraced her steps, posing in the same spots once chosen by his mother and the photographers accompanying her. Diana’s visit to the statue was part of a busy schedule during which she and Charles attended separate engagements, as the couple’s relationship was already strained. The princess joined Charles for official events, including a banquet, while her solo appearances focused mainly on her humanitarian and volunteer work.
