Festival Celebrates Fish Soup Tradition and Bulgarian Folklore
The third edition of the Fish Soup Festival will take place on Saturday in the village of Popina, Silistra region, announced the organizers from the local community center "Hristo Botev 2021."
They noted that interest in the event is high, and more than a month before the festival, registration for participation in the folklore program has been closed, CE Report quotes BTA.
The program will include over 270 amateur performers from the Silistra, Ruse, and Varna regions.
The festival aims to preserve the tradition of preparing delicious fish soup, to strengthen the presence of folklore heritage in modern life, and to provide an opportunity for numerous groups and individual performers to showcase their talents.
The organizers plan to set up stalls with Bulgarian crafts and handmade products recreated in a traditional way. There will also be a “street” with tables presenting homemade delicacies — appetizers, sweets, bee products, wines, rakiya, and other goods. Anyone wishing to present their own products is welcome to participate.
The village of Popina has been connected to the Danube River for centuries, with fishing being the main livelihood of the locals for many years.
