Alex Sandro Also Injured, Missing Brazil Matches
Midfielder Joelinton will miss Brazil’s upcoming World Cup 2026 qualifying matches due to an injury sustained during Newcastle’s 2-3 loss to Liverpool in the Premier League, the Brazilian Football Confederation announced, CE Report quotes BTA.
The 29-year-old Brazilian left the pitch visibly upset during the second half of Monday’s match, and manager Eddie Howe confirmed the injury is serious.
“Honestly, things don’t look good,” Howe said.
Brazil’s national team coach Carlo Ancelotti has called up Jean Lucas from Bahia for the remaining qualifiers.
Flamengo’s left-back Alex Sandro was also ruled out of the squad due to injury.
Brazil will face Chile at the Maracanã Stadium on September 4, before traveling to Bolivia for their final qualifier five days later. The team currently sits third in the CONMEBOL standings with 25 points.
