Piotr Nesterov Advances to Bucharest Quarterfinals After Solid Win

Bulgarian Davis Cup player Piotr Nesterov has advanced to the quarterfinals of the clay-court tennis tournament in Bucharest, Romania, which has a prize fund of $15,000, CE Report quotes BTA.

The No. 3 seed, Nesterov defeated local player Mihai Marinescu with a score of 7–6(3), 6–2 in a match that lasted 1 hour and 53 minutes.

In the first set, there were no breaks of serve, leading to a tiebreak, where the 22-year-old Bulgarian took control by gaining a 6–3 lead and closed the set at his first opportunity. In the second set, Nesterov won four consecutive games from 0–1 to 4–1, eventually sealing the set 6–2.

For a spot in the semifinals, Nesterov will face the winner of the match between No. 8 seed Radu Turcanu (Romania) and Diego Fernandez (Chile).
