Sweden to Face Kosovo in Fiery Match at “Fadil Vokrri” Stadium
The Swedish national team, led by Jon Dahl Tomasson, has announced the squad for the first two World Cup qualifying matches, with the second match being against Kosovo in Prishtina, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
After a successful debut in the Nations League, Sweden will start their World Cup journey on September 5 against Slovenia, and three days later, on September 8, they will face Kosovo at the “Fadil Vokrri” stadium.
Tomasson has called up important names such as strikers Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak. Gyökeres comes after scoring on his Premier League debut with Arsenal, while Isak, although yet to play this season for Newcastle, has been confirmed as part of the squad. Another important return is Lucas Bergvall from Tottenham.
The match against Kosovo is expected to be decisive for the Swedes, who will seek full points away. Coach Tomasson acknowledges the matches are tough but sees great opportunities for his team:
“All teams in the group can beat each other. We know that the match in Prishtina will be very difficult, but that is also the beauty of qualifiers. They will be tough and interesting confrontations,” he said.
Several key players are missing due to injuries, including Dejan Kulusevski, Carl Starfelt, and Emil Holm, while Victor Nilsson Lindelöf was not called up as he remains without a club.
Sweden will travel to Kosovo immediately after the match in Slovenia, and the atmosphere at “Fadil Vokrri” is expected to be fiery, making the clash even more special.
