
Woody Allen’s Films Pulled from Ukrainian Stages After Moscow Event
Several theaters in Ukraine have announced the cancellation of performances based on Woody Allen’s scripts, following the Oscar-winning director’s online appearance at the Moscow International Film Festival, CE Report quotes ATA.
In Lviv, the Maria Zankovetska Theatre has decided to cancel its shows of "Bullets Over Broadway", a musical based on a script by Allen.
In Chernivtsi, the Olha Kobylianska Regional Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater canceled the play "A Midsummer Night’s Comedy Or, How Foolish the Entire Human Race Is", also based on Allen’s work.
In Kyiv, the Molodyy Theatre canceled its performances of "Riverside Drive", another Woody Allen play.
“We condemn the participation of American director Woody Allen in the Moscow International Film Festival. Culture cannot serve as a cover for crimes,” the theater stated.
