"Siberia in Bones" Screening in Chisinau

The documentary Siberia in Bones, directed by Leontina Vatamanu, will be screened outdoors in Parliament Square on July 20 at 20:30. The event, organized by Moldova’s Parliament in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and OWH Studio, is free and open to the public, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

The film commemorates the victims of the Stalinist deportations, particularly the mass deportation of July 6–9, 1949, when over 35,000 Moldovans—including nearly 12,000 children—were forcibly sent to Siberia.

Based on the testimonies of four survivors, the documentary combines personal stories with powerful re-enactments, offering a moving tribute to those who endured exile and repression. Vatamanu, a descendant of deportees herself, includes her own mother among the protagonists, adding a deeply personal dimension to the narrative.
