Bulgarian author wins 2025 Vilenica Prize in Slovenia

Bulgarian author Georgi Gospodinov has been awarded the 2025 Vilenica Prize, presented annually at the Vilenica International Literary Festival in Slovenia. Marking its 40th edition, the prize honors outstanding Central European authors in literature or essay writing, CE Report quotes BTA

Gospodinov expressed his gratitude on Facebook, mentioning past winners like Milan Kundera and Olga Tokarczuk. The international jury praised his emotionally rich and socially engaged writing, calling it “touching, unfamiliar, and laced with raw humor.”

The award ceremony will take place in the Vilenica Cave during the festival from September 8 to 13, held across several cities in Slovenia and Italy. This year’s theme, “Brave New World – New Rules for Life,” highlights literature’s role in bridging divides.
