Residents in Split and their guests celebrated the feast of St Domnius, the patron saint of the biggest Croatian coastal city, with numerous events including culinary delights, performances and concerts being the part of the celebration.

The traditional procession and solemn Mass, which began at 10 a.m., started from the Cathedral of St Domnius and made its way to the Riva seafront promenade, CE Report quotes HINA.

"This year, in the great anniversary year marking 1,100 years since the church councils that shaped Croatian history, we are giving special recognition to St Domnius as well," said Culture Minister Nina Obuljen Koržinek.

Tourism and Sports Minister Tonči Glavina also extended his congratulations to the citizens of Split, noting that this is a day celebrated by the entire city and all of Dalmatia.

He expressed his belief that everyone visiting Split today will enjoy the festivities and be reminded of the city’s unique spirit. Glavina shared that his favourite part of the feast is the procession and Mass, and said he is especially pleased to see a growing number of young people taking part each year.

"It’s the most beautiful tradition, let there be joy, celebration and festivity, because Split truly deserves it," Glavina said.

When asked to comment on the absence of the Prime Minister and other top state officials in Split today, the minister explained that he was attending as a government representative, as Prime Minister Andrej Plenković is currently on an official visit to the United States.

The traditional celebration also brought together local politicians, who wished the people of Split a joyful and festive day.
