AK Party Edirne Member of Parliament of Türkiye Fatma Aksal stated that the Selimiye Mosque, whose restoration is nearing completion, is planned to be fully opened for worship during Ramadan.

Aksal said in a statement to journalists that the Selimiye Mosque has undergone a very comprehensive restoration, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.

Noting that the mosque has been addressed on this scale for the first time since its construction, Aksal said, “From its minarets to its dome and its foundations, no part was left untouched. This restoration has carried the Selimiye Mosque, a masterpiece of our ancestors, 100 years into the future.”

Aksal explained that the restoration works were carried out under the supervision of the Selimiye Mosque Restoration Scientific Board and shared the following details about the process:

“Since Selimiye Mosque is the first place that comes to mind when Edirne is mentioned, the mosque was not completely closed to worship during the restoration. Both the residents of Edirne and visitors to the city were able to perform their prayers in the sections that remained open for worship.

We have missed this moment very much. We plan to open the entire Selimiye Mosque for worship during Ramadan. Our work continues in this direction. God willing, if there are no setbacks, the entire Selimiye Mosque will be open for worship this Ramadan.”

As reported by CE Report, Aksal also noted that restoration and revival works are continuing at many historical structures in the city, adding that investments in Edirne are increasing steadily.
