Türkiye's Çanakkale landmark gains European recognition

Culture and Tourism Minister of Türkiye Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced that Seddülbahir Castle in Çanakkale has been nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award 2026 (EMYA).

Ersoy said in a statement shared on his social media account:

“We are delighted that Seddülbahir Castle—one of Türkiye’s historic structures on the Çanakkale coast—has been nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award 2026 (EMYA), one of Europe’s most prestigious museum programs.”

Recalling that Seddülbahir Castle was restored, protected, and revitalized through the Ministry’s meticulous restoration and museology efforts, and officially opened to visitors by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on March 18, 2023, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.

Ersoy added:

“Opening its doors on the anniversary of the Çanakkale Naval Victory, the castle today stands out as a powerful cultural venue that brings historical awareness together with a contemporary museology approach. Through the high-quality restoration and museology projects we carry out in cultural heritage areas, we continue to make Türkiye one of the countries cited as a model in this field.”
