Dance Festival Comes to Sofia

The 18th Antistatic International Festival for Contemporary Dance and Performance will take place in Sofia from May 7 to 21, under the theme “Signs of Resistance.”

Organizers describe the festival as a platform exploring how movement can challenge norms and express dissent. “In a world that demands conformity, we have to dance against the current,” say founders Iva Sveshtarova, Vilislav Prager, and Stefan A. Shterev, CE Report quotes BTA

Held across multiple venues, including the Toplocentrala Centre for Contemporary Art, the festival will feature international artists such as Deva Schubert with Glitch Choir, Christoph Winkler with Four Non Blondes, Sylvain Huc with Sujets, and Sonja Pregrad’s O.

The opening event will focus on the theme of “dance memory,” including a screening of Mila Iskrenova’s 1990 film The Wall at the Academia Gallery.

An educational segment, No Distance, will run May 7–9 at the Goethe Institute, featuring lectures by director Yavor Gardev, philosopher Boyan Manchev, and designer Neli Miteva. Swiss choreographer Maud Blandel will also lead a workshop on open composition.
