Renowned Writer and Former MP Vladimir Besleaga Passes Away at 93

Vladimir Besleaga, a distinguished writer and former Member of Parliament, has passed away at the age of 93. The Ministry of Culture confirmed the news for MOLDPRES.

Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan expressed his condolences, writing, "With a heavy heart, we announce that Vladimir Beșleagă has left us." Born in 1931 in Mălăiești, Besleaga was a major figure in Romanian literature, advocating for national values and the Romanian language in Bessarabia. Over his decades-long career, he worked as a journalist, editor, and cultural leader while publishing numerous books, essays, and memoirs.

He received several prestigious awards, including the State Prize of the Moldovan SSR (1978) and the title of People's Writer (1991). In the 1990s, he played an active role in Moldova’s National Revival Movement and served in the first Parliament of independent Moldova.

His passing is a great loss to the literary and cultural community.
