Volkswagen CEO outlines potential scale of job cuts

Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume has, for the first time, indicated the potential scale of the job cuts planned at Europe's largest carmaker.

In an internal interview published on Volkswagen's intranet and seen by the German Press Agency (DPA), Blume said that around 50,000 jobs worldwide could be affected if labor costs are not reduced.

The report was first published by the German magazine Der Spiegel, CE Report quotes ANSA.

According to Blume, the figure stems from the company's plan to reduce administrative, infrastructure, and support costs to a level that would make Volkswagen more competitive.

The proposed measures are part of the automaker's broader efforts to improve efficiency and adapt to increasing competition in the global automotive market, particularly as the industry accelerates its transition toward electric vehicles and digital technologies.
