UNICEF Establishes Business Advisory Council in North Macedonia

UNICEF has established a Business Advisory Council (BAC) in North Macedonia, bringing together prominent representatives of the business community committed to advancing children's rights and well-being through responsible business practices, innovation, advocacy and partnerships.

The council comprises Nebi Hodža (Oxa Group), Irena Jakimovska (Komfi Angel), Goran Marković (Makedonski Telekom), Živko Mukaetov (Alkaloid), Ivan Šteriev (Macedonian Stock Exchange) and Marjonka Veljanovska (Pharmahem), who are participating in their personal capacities.

Together, they will use their expertise and influence to strengthen business-sector engagement in supporting children and identify opportunities to improve conditions for children and families, CE Report informs via the UNICEF North Macedonia's official website.

“Every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn, grow and reach their full potential. Achieving this vision requires leadership from all parts of society, including the business community. I am extremely grateful to the members of UNICEF's Business Advisory Council for bringing their knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to this shared goal,” said Leslie Miller, UNICEF Representative in North Macedonia.

“What inspires me most is not only their personal commitment to children's rights, but also their willingness to encourage and mobilise others. The first meeting marks the beginning of an important collaboration that has the potential to significantly improve children's lives,” she added.

The Business Advisory Council is a UNICEF platform that connects private-sector leadership with UNICEF's mission for children. Members voluntarily contribute their time and expertise to advance children's rights, promote responsible business practices, raise awareness of issues affecting children and support partnerships that create shared value for children, communities and companies.

Early childhood education and care was identified as the council's first area for joint action, given its key role in supporting children's development, enabling greater participation of women in the labour market, reducing intergenerational poverty and inequality, and laying the foundations for long-term economic prosperity. UNICEF and the council will explore innovative partnerships that can help more children, particularly the most vulnerable, receive the best possible start in life.

By bringing together influential private-sector leaders, the council aims to harness the power of the business community to help ensure that every child in North Macedonia survives, thrives and reaches their full potential.
