Romania is to build Europe’s highest pedestrian suspension bridge in Parva Municipality, Bistrita-Nasaud County, local authorities said.

The project will be built at the foot of the Rodna Mountains in the northern part of the country, CE Report quotes BTA.

The bridge will be about 620 metres long and hang nearly 200 metres above the ground, potentially making it one of Romania’s most spectacular tourist attractions.

The investment is estimated at almost RON 24 million, or EUR 4.5 million, excluding VAT.

Local authorities hope the new landmark will transform Parva Municipality and draw more visitors to an area with significant but still underdeveloped tourism potential. The project is financed through the North-West Regional Programme 2021-2027, using European funds and money from the local budget.

The authorities plan to hold a public consultation allowing residents to propose and choose the name of the future suspension bridge.

According to estimates by the North-West Regional Development Agency, tourist numbers in the area could rise by more than 20% in the first year after completion. The investment is expected to be completed by October 2027.
