WUF13: First major Bulgarian ecological industry investment advances in Azerbaijan
President of Bulgaria Iliana Iotova visited a plant entirely built with Bulgarian investment in the industrial free economic zone of Sumgait, located 25 km from the Azerbaijani capital, Baku.
The plant, which recycles used industrial and motor oils and produces base oils of Group I and II, is the only industrial project approved by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during his visit to Bulgaria in 2023 that has been fully implemented.
It is also the first investment of such scale in this sector in Azerbaijan, CE Report informs via the Administration of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria's official website.
The project, developed by a Bulgarian company active in ecological construction, design, and project management, is currently in the pre-commissioning testing phase. It has been designated as strategic by President Ilham Aliyev and is considered high-tech, fully aligned with the requirements of the UN Climate Conference held in Baku in 2024.
Head of State Iliana Iotova is in the Azerbaijani capital to take part in the Summit within the 13th session of the World Urban Forum. The platform was established in 2001 by the United Nations in response to rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change, and public policies. The forum, held every two years in different countries, has become the world’s most important event in the field of urban development. At Azerbaijan’s initiative, a summit with participation of heads of state and government will be held for the first time.
The delegation of the president also includes the mayor of Veliko Tarnovo and chairman of the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria, Daniel Panov. Representatives of local authorities from various parts of the country will also participate in the World Urban Forum, which continues until May 22.
