Doctor Who props and costumes up for auction online
Fans of the television series Doctor Who — whose protagonist travels through time and space aboard a machine disguised as a police box — will be able to buy accessories and costumes from the BBC’s cult science-fiction show at an online auction, AFP reports.
The auction will run until February 19, and the organizing house, Propstore, expects collectors from around the world to take part, especially as the series has been available on the Disney+ streaming platform since 2023, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
More than 200 props from recent seasons of Doctor Who will be up for sale. The series was revived in 2005 after originally airing on British television between 1963 and 1989.
According to Guinness World Records, Doctor Who is the science fiction series with the highest number of episodes.
“There will be buyers from Europe, North America, Asia, Australia… it really is a global phenomenon,” said Sian Taylor, a representative of Propstore, during a presentation of the items in northwest London.
Some of the props require significant storage space, such as a large TARDIS — the machine The Doctor uses to travel through space and time. Used in the episode Eve of the Daleks (2022), the blue police box measures nearly three meters in height and 1.5 meters in width.
A metal Dalek — one of The Doctor’s alien enemies — mounted on wheels is also being offered for sale.
The 200 lots were supplied by the BBC, which plans to donate one-fifth of the proceeds to the charity Children in Need.
In February, a previous Doctor Who auction organized by Propstore raised £250,000 (€288,000) for the same charity.
All the items were used during rehearsals or filming of episodes broadcast since 2005, featuring iconic actors who played The Doctor, including David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and Jodie Whittaker.
“Everything starts at £100, so in theory almost anyone can afford something,” Sian Taylor said.
However, those hoping to secure a TARDIS or a Dalek at that price may be disappointed: similar items were sold last year for £12,600 and £2,520 respectively (€14,550 and €2,910).
