Moldova to Build Two Large Photovoltaic Power Plants by 2025

Business

The Republic of Moldova is set to boost its renewable energy capacity with the construction of two large photovoltaic power plants by late 2025. The plants will be located in Negureni, Telenești district (40 MW), and Rădeni, Strășeni district (50 MW), adding a total of 90 MW to the country’s renewable energy sources, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

According to the Ministry of Energy, these plants will generate over 100 million kWh annually, covering a significant portion of the energy demand on the right bank of the Dniester River. Once operational, Moldova’s total installed renewable energy capacity will rise from 580 MW at the end of 2024 to 670 MW.

The government is reviewing draft decisions to authorize construction, as projects exceeding 20 MW require approval under the Electricity Law. Moldova has made significant strides in renewable energy, with installed capacity tripling since 2022 and increasing eightfold since 2020. In 2023, renewable sources provided 16.72% of the nation’s electricity, with a target of reaching 30% in the near future.
