Bomb threat targets aircraft linked to Sofia Airport
Bomb threats targeting various institutions, as well as an aircraft linked to Sofia Airport, were received on Tuesday. The aircraft has landed at Sofia Airport and is being inspected by officers of the Specialized Counter-Terrorism Unit for possible explosive devices, acting Interior Ministry Secretary General Lyubomir Nikolov told reporters in Pernik.
Nikolov said efforts were under way to identify the sender of a bomb threat which had been issued on Monday. He recalled that in previous similar cases, email addresses from which the messages had been sent had been identified, with the corresponding IP addresses located in other European countries, CE Report quotes BTA.
"The worrying thing is that some airlines have now also started to be targeted, which means that aircraft have to be diverted and the relevant measures taken," Nikolov said.
He assured the public that officers are following established procedures and responding to every report received. At present, there is no information indicating any specific terrorist intentions or actions. Security measures at airports have been stepped up, with a constant state of readiness maintained to ensure a swift response.
