False reports claiming Lenny Kravitz died in plane crash debunked
Viral reports circulating online claiming that Lenny Kravitz was among the passengers aboard the Learjet that crashed in Florida on Sunday are false, the American rock star's publicist said on Monday, Variety reports.
The aircraft, a Learjet 60 carrying nine passengers to the Bahamas, crashed onto a pavement in Palm Beach County on Sunday afternoon, killing everyone on board, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
Lenny Kravitz's publicist, Carleen Donovan, told Variety that the viral reports claiming the rock star was among those killed in the crash were "false and incorrect". The names of the passengers on board have not yet been made public.
A post published on the social media platform X went viral shortly after the crash, suggesting that the aircraft's pilot had revealed on social media that she was transporting the legendary rock singer on the same flight route.
"I am honoured to be flying none other than Lenny Kravitz tomorrow from AUS (Austin) to ELH (Bahamas)," pilot Emily Shelton allegedly wrote in the post. "I can't wait to have him on board! The cockpit will be playing 'It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over'."
However, Emily Shelton was not piloting the aircraft that crashed. According to the New York Post, the female pilot aboard the plane was Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras. The identity of the male pilot has not yet been disclosed.
Emily Shelton also personally denied being the pilot of the private jet in a statement shared on her TikTok account.
"I recently became aware of rumours claiming that I was the pilot involved in the recent plane crash in Palm Beach. I would like to respectfully clarify that it was not me. I ask people to stop speculating and spreading false information about this tragedy and to show respect for everyone involved. My thoughts are with all those who lost their lives and everyone affected," she wrote.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
