A motion to delay the vote, proposed by the Europe of Sovereign Nations Group, which includes Bulgaria’s Vazrazhdane party, was rejected.

Bulgarian MEP Eva Maydell (EPP/GERB) said the decision "sends a clear signal: Bulgaria is ready to join the Euro area."

Later the same day, EU finance ministers in Brussels finalized the necessary legislation for Bulgaria’s accession, officially setting the adoption date and fixing the conversion rate at EUR 1 = BGN 1.95583.
