Bulgaria Stands Firm on North Macedonia's EU Bid

Bulgaria

Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister and politicians responded to Parliament’s unanimous resolution (194-0) reaffirming the country's stance on North Macedonia’s EU accession. The resolution, moved by MPs from There Is Such a People (TISP), insists North Macedonia respect the July 2022 EU-mediated agreement, including constitutional changes recognizing Bulgarians as a constituent people, CE Report quotes BTA

Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev underscored Bulgaria’s unwavering position: "We will not budge an inch from the 2022 agreement." GERB leader Boyko Borissov and other MPs echoed this, calling out provocations like the burning of Bulgarian cultural centers.

The resolution obliges Bulgaria’s government and MEPs to uphold this position and ensure North Macedonia fully meets EU conditions before any further accession steps.
