MRF Leaders Call for Unity
Delyan Peevski, Chair of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) and Floor Leader of the MRF – New Beginning parliamentary group, met with Dzhevdet Chakarov, Floor Leader of the Democracy, Rights and Freedoms (DRF) parliamentary group, on Tuesday. In a constructive conversation, both leaders agreed that the period of division must end, and resolving the people's problems must remain the priority for all political parties, CE Report quotes BTA
To promote party unity, Chakarov announced he is stepping down as MRF Chair. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Cassation is set to rule on the case regarding changes to the MRF record in the register of political parties, which Chakarov had filed to remove Peevski from the party leadership.
The MRF has been split since July 2024 into two factions: one loyal to founder Ahmed Dogan and another led by Peevski. Peevski and his faction were expelled from the MRF in August 2024, and they in turn expelled Dogan and his supporters in November 2024.
