President Rumen Radev, addressing the crowd, honored the fallen and called on Bulgarians to uphold national memory and resist manipulation. “No politician or citizen can evade their responsibility to the nation or the test of history,” he stated.
Perushtitsa joined the 1876 uprising three days after its start in Koprivshtitsa. After days of fierce resistance, Ottoman forces set fire to a church sheltering civilians and rebels, killing 347 people.
The ceremony included a military salute and was attended by officials including Environment Minister Manol Genov and Plovdiv Governor Hristina Yancheva.
