Thousands Brave Cold to Honor Bulgaria’s Liberation at Shipka Monument

Despite freezing temperatures and thick fog, thousands of Bulgarians climbed Mt. Shipka on Monday to mark the 147th anniversary of Bulgaria’s Liberation. The national celebration, organized by Gabrovo Municipality, was attended by National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova, Deputy Minister of Defence Radostin Iliev, MEPs, MPs, and other officials, CE Report quotes BTA

The official ceremony began with Kiselova reviewing the guard of honor. In her speech, she emphasized the need to protect Bulgaria’s democratic values and honor the past. She paid tribute to all who fought in the Russo-Turkish War, highlighting the sacrifices of Bulgarian volunteers in the struggle for freedom.

The event concluded with a minute of silence and the laying of wreaths at the Monument to Freedom.
