Zelensky sees prospects for peace in Russia’s war against Ukraine
President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that there are prospects for a peaceful settlement in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The Ukrainian President said this in an interview with the New York Post, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.
“I believe that in this war of Russia against Ukraine, there are prospects for a peaceful settlement. Of course there are moments of frustration, internal issues, war related complications, all sorts of trouble. But nevertheless, we must understand one thing: Ukraine wants peace, President Trump wants peace – which means we are allies on this issue, and there should be no doubt about it. We must move toward this goal,” Zelensky said.
He emphasized that Ukraine wants peace far more than Putin.
“Yet Putin does everything to make it look as though he wants peace and Ukraine does not. These are signals he sends to America. This is not true; it is manipulation. I very much want the U.S. to trust us, because we are their partners. Even when help was needed in the Middle East, we responded immediately to the request. That is what being allies all about,” the President said.
He stressed that options for a peace agreement must be sought every day. For this, he said, a meeting with the Americans is necessary.
“We have a couple more ideas on how we can force this war to end,” Zelensky added.
As reported, previous trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia took place in Geneva on February 17–18.
On March 9, Zelensky said that due to developments around Iran, new trilateral talks between delegations of Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia, which had been scheduled for early March, were postponed at the suggestion of the American side.
On March 11, U.S. President’s Envoy Steve Witkoff said he already sees signs of a turning point in negotiations on ending Russia’s war against Ukraine, noting that the parties are “exhausted.”
Zelensky also said that the planned trilateral meeting in the United States remains uncertain, as the Russian delegation is “not ready to fly to America.”
