Turkey Pushes for Russia-Ukraine Talks
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that a new round of Russia-Ukraine peace talks is expected, as both sides see the value in dialogue. In an interview with TRT News, Fidan emphasized that the war, now in its fourth year, has become a global crisis due to international involvement, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency
He cited Türkiye’s peace efforts, including the Black Sea Grain Initiative and past Istanbul talks, and noted progress from a June 2 meeting that led to an agreement on a new prisoner exchange involving over 1,000 people. Both Russia and Ukraine presented ceasefire terms and agreed to hold further talks.
Fidan underlined President Erdogan’s offer to host a leaders’ summit, saying Erdogan remains the only trusted figure among all sides. He suggested a face-to-face meeting between Russian and Ukrainian leaders is becoming increasingly likely.
Fidan also discussed regional cooperation against ISIS, revealing the activation of a Counter-Daesh Coordination Cell involving Türkiye, Syria, Jordan, and others. He noted behind-the-scenes developments in Syria and said coordination among Ankara, Damascus, and Washington is gradually improving.
