Erdogan Backs Ukraine Ceasefire

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday reiterated Türkiye’s support for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing that NATO should not become involved in the conflict, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Erdogan made the remarks during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Ankara, alongside Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Talks focused on the Ukraine-Russia war and broader global and regional developments.

Erdogan confirmed Türkiye's readiness to host unconditional peace talks in Istanbul on May 15, following a proposal from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to NATO, noting that the country will once again assume command of the NATO Kosovo Force. Erdogan also called on allies to support Türkiye in its fight against terrorism.

The president stressed Türkiye’s increased diplomatic efforts for a lasting and just peace, noting recent talks with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. "The opportunity for peace should not be missed," Erdogan said.
