Zelenskyy Rejects Trump’s Crimea Criticism

War in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rejected criticism from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who called Kyiv's refusal to negotiate over Crimea "very harmful" to peace efforts with Russia, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Speaking in Kyiv, Zelenskyy said there is “nothing to talk about” regarding Crimea, as recognizing Russia’s occupation would violate Ukraine’s Constitution. In a post on X, he emphasized that Ukraine will act in accordance with its laws and expressed confidence that allies like the U.S. would do the same.

Trump, writing on his Truth Social platform, questioned why Ukraine didn’t fight for Crimea in 2014, claiming it was "handed over" without resistance. He added that no one is demanding Zelenskyy recognize Crimea as Russian.

Zelenskyy responded with a photo of the 2018 U.S. Crimea Declaration, which reaffirmed U.S. non-recognition of Russia’s annexation.

He also commented on peace talks in London involving Ukraine, the U.S., the UK, France, and Germany, expressing hope that joint efforts would lead to a lasting peace.
