Sarajevo Airport reveals plans to expand destination network - EXCLUSIVE
The primary task of Sarajevo Airport is to expand the destination network, Sarajevo Airport's Public Relations Officer, Belma Čureković, said in an exclusive interview with CE Report.
“The primary task of the relevant dept. of Sarajevo Airport is continuous negotiations with new airlines on the topic of expanding the destination network, with a particular emphasis on strategic routes, as well as with airlines that already operate flights to Sarajevo and that, based on identified potential and available capacities, can increase frequencies on existing routes or introduce new routes with the aim of improving connectivity between Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and new destinations,” Čureković explained.
She added that the recent meeting with Ryanair representatives was part of this proactive and strategic approach, aimed at ensuring long-term growth of the destination network and passenger traffic to and from Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Regarding potential destinations, Čureković confirmed that the airport focuses on strategic locations.
“However, it should be noted that airlines use their own internal databases, so the final decision is always a combination of proposals from both sides, based on identified potential and demand. Sarajevo Airport recently held a very constructive meeting with our tourism sector representatives, during which strategic routes were confirmed, and in the coming period we will work intensively to connect Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina with as many European destinations as possible,” she said.
Čureković noted that tourism has already benefited from these efforts, emphasizing the close link between the transport and tourism sectors.
“There is no doubt that further expansion of the destination network and traffic at Sarajevo Airport will additionally enhance the already excellent results and figures when it comes to tourism in our country,” she added.
In terms of incentives, Čureković pointed to the airport’s Incentive Program, which supports all routes, as well as programs implemented by the Tourist Board through public calls, modeled on successful practices in the region and beyond.
