Traditional Life Meets Modern Eco-Tourism in the Albanian Alps
Prime Minister Edi Rama today promoted the natural beauty of Lëpusha and Kelmend, located in the Malësia e Madhe region, as unique tourist destinations in the Albanian Alps, CE Report quotes ATA.
Rama shared images from this mountainous area, calling Lëpusha “a wonder of our Alps” and a must-see destination for those passionate about nature tourism.
“Lëpusha in Kelmend, Malësia e Madhe — a wonder of our Alps and a destination that shouldn’t be missed by lovers of nature tourism,” Rama emphasized.
Malësia e Madhe is increasingly becoming a reference point for mountain and family tourism, attracting both domestic and foreign visitors. Its rich natural potential, traditional hospitality, and the growth of agrotourism are turning the region into one of the most promising destinations for sustainable tourism in Albania.
In the village of Lëpusha, guesthouses supported by AZHBR (Agency for Agricultural and Rural Development) have been established to accommodate both local and foreign tourists.
Lëpusha is considered a rare natural gem of Kelmend and a “pearl” of the Albanian Alps. Surrounded by high mountains with the rocky block of Shkënik in the Accursed Mountains and lush surroundings, the area is known for its green pastures and dense forests that thrive in summer.
The village is constantly watered by the stream known as Sheu i Lëpushës. The main branches of the local economy are livestock and agriculture, but in recent years, agrotourism has also grown. Handcrafted woodwork is another supplementary income source for locals.
Lëpusha is a stunning destination with great potential for nature and adventure tourism.
Its fairytale-like beauty peaks in summer, with guesthouses offering year-round comfort. Visitors are typically mountain climbers, adventure seekers, winter sports enthusiasts, and nature lovers.
