As of October, Wizz Air will start new direct flights from Skopje to Stockholm, Sweden; Bari, Italy; Madrid, Spain; Prague, Czech Republic; Cologne, Germany; and Larnaca, Cyprus, CE Report quotes MIA.

The flights are part of the TAV Macedonia's vision and strategy to make Skopje International Airport a regional hub with the support of the government, the airport operator said in a press release Friday.

"Securing destinations like Stockholm, Bari, Madrid, Prague, Cologne as well as the earlier announced Larnaca — especially the new markets — requires long-term negotiations and close cooperation with airlines and the tourism sector," TAV Macedonia General Manager Nejat Kurt is quoted as saying in the release.

"These new routes open fresh opportunities for tourism, including summer vacations and city breaks, thus boosting sustainable traffic, and strengthening our presence on the European tourism map," he said, adding that the flights were expected to increase inbound tourism, as well.

Wizz Air will fly to Stockholm, Bari and Madrid three times a week, and to Prague and Larnaca twice a week. Passengers can book their flights through the airline's website.
