UNESCO-listed Gjirokastra Castle Attracts Record Visitors
The Gjirokastra Castle in Albania was visited by 100 people during the period January-June 2025.
The Castle of Gjirokastra, also known as the Castle of Argjiro, is the city's most important monument, standing proudly on the hill like a ship that welcomes local and foreign visitors, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
The figure of 100 thousand visitors in the first half of 2025 shows an increase in the number of visitors compared to the same period last year, thus making the Gjirokastra Castle one of the most visited, with high interest in knowing and learning its history, writes Atsh.
Gjirokastra, or as it is otherwise known, the "stone city", is among the most beautiful cities in southern Albania, among the first Albanian cities on UNESCO's list.
The castle is located on a hill slightly detached from the Gjerë Mountain, elevated at an observation point about 370 meters above sea level.
Compared to other medieval fortresses in the country, this fortress is smaller in area but is preserved in better condition.
