It also noted that students are becoming increasingly isolated and their social connections are weakening as they move away from studying together in groups.

The report pointed out that students often turn to AI tools first when they encounter even minor difficulties.

It further stated that the use of AI is “challenging” learning methods that have been practiced at MIT for many years.

The university’s study provided examples of how AI use—from online exams to professors’ office hours and study groups—is disrupting the “learning experience.”

The report also noted that the use of AI makes it more difficult to evaluate students’ performance and emphasized the need for further research into how AI tools can be used more appropriately and effectively in education.
