Aziz Sancar honored by Azerbaijan
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree awarding Nobel Prize-winning Turkish scientist Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar the “Shohrat” Order.
According to a statement issued by the Azerbaijani Presidency, Aliyev signed the decree to honor Aziz Sancar with the “Shohrat” Order, based on the relevant provisions of the Constitution.
The decree stated that Sancar was awarded the honor for his outstanding contributions to strengthening international scientific and humanitarian cooperation between Azerbaijan and the international community, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.
Aziz Sancar, one of Türkiye's most renowned scientists, was awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his groundbreaking research on DNA repair.
His work has made significant contributions to the understanding of how cells repair damaged DNA and has had a major impact on cancer research. Over the years, Sancar has also maintained close academic and cultural ties with Azerbaijan.
His latest recognition by Azerbaijan highlights his contributions to scientific cooperation and the strengthening of ties between the two countries.
