WhatsApp tests new AI feature to verify misinformation in real time
Meta is developing a WhatsApp feature that will allow users to verify misinformation and fake news in chats, in real time and without leaving the app.
The button, called Ask Meta AI, was discovered by the specialized website WaBetaInfo in an Android app update, version 2.25.23.24, CE Report quotes ATA.
To verify the content of a message, users can select Ask Meta AI from the app menu, and the content will be automatically sent to Meta’s chatbot, to which the user can ask a specific question.
For now, the feature is only available to a limited number of users as a test and will be gradually rolled out to everyone.
Mark Zuckerberg’s company aims to curb the spread of misinformation, which circulates rapidly through chats.
It remains to be seen how this system, which relies on artificial intelligence (AI) without human oversight, will perform.
Among other new WhatsApp features, according to WaBetaInfo, there is also a new setting for disappearing messages, which vanish after a set time chosen by the user. This introduces the option to select a shorter timer than currently available, adding two new options: one and two hours.
