Meta to Begin Testing Community Notes on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads

Tech & Science

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, announced it will start testing a Community Notes program on March 18. This new approach replaces third-party fact-checking with a crowd-sourced system, allowing users to add context to posts, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

According to Meta, Community Notes aims to be less biased by incorporating diverse perspectives. The program, inspired by X’s (formerly Twitter) similar initiative, enables contributors to write and rate notes on content. If enough users from different viewpoints find a note “helpful,” it will be publicly displayed.

Meta has already received 200,000 sign-ups from potential contributors in the U.S. and will gradually admit participants to test the system before making any notes visible.
