The Iranian Football Federation is negotiating with FIFA to move its FIFA World Cup group-stage matches from the United States to Mexico due to the conflict in the Middle East.

This was announced by the Iranian embassy in Mexico, CE Report quotes ANSA.

“Since U.S. President Donald Trump has explicitly stated that he cannot guarantee the safety of the Iranian national team, we will certainly not go to America,” said Mehdi Taj, president of the Iranian Football Federation, in a statement published on the embassy’s account on X.

“We are currently negotiating with FIFA,” he added, “so that Iran’s World Cup matches can be held in Mexico.”
