The official opening of the season at Bulgaria's Vitoshko Lale 1 slope kicks off with the first night skiing this Thursday, Vitosha Ski announced.

Winter started with unusually high temperatures, strong winds, and the lack of almost any snowfall, which delayed the start of the ski season in the Vitosha Mountain, above the capital, CE Report quotes BTA.

Thanks to favourable weather conditions, including heavy snowfall and low temperatures in recent days, the facilities in the Aleko ski area are gradually opening.

Preparations are underway in the mountain, and the good news for all skiers and snowboarders is that new snowfall is expected at the end of the week, which will help the ski area operator's efforts to provide the best possible conditions.

As of Wednesday, the Mecha polyana, Uchebna and Sinia 5 (Pomagalski lift) slopes and facilities are open and Vitoshko Lale 1 opens tomorrow.

Currently, conditions for winter sports are good, and the area is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for daytime skiing. Starting January 15, evening skiing will also be available every week from Tuesday to Friday, from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Vitoshko Lale 1.

In the coming days, more slopes and facilities will be opened. Vitoshko Lale 2 and the upper part of the mountain, the Vetrovala ski area and Vitosha Snow Park are expected to open very soon.

This winter, Sofia's mountain will host a number of interesting events, the first of which is the traditional Vitosha Winter Fest and the Winter Bike Duel on January 24. The event calendar includes alpine skiing competitions, freestyle skiing and snowboarding international starts, the State Boardercross Championships, and the freeride ski and snowboard deep snow competition - Vitosha X lines.

For the latest updates on conditions in the mountain and for up-to-date information on the open slopes and facilities in real time, skiers and snowboarders can check the www.vitoshaski.com website and follow the resort’s Facebook and Instagram profiles.

As reported by CE Report, the Simeonovo cabin lift from the city to the Aleko Hut has technical problems, but the mountain is accessible by car or bus number 66.
