European Super League backers prepare compensation claim against UEFA
The company A22 Sports Management, which stands behind the European Super League project, has initiated legal action under Spanish law before launching a multi-billion-euro lawsuit against UEFA.
This move was previously announced by Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez during yesterday’s General Assembly of the “Royal Club,” and A22 also issued an official statement, CE Report quotes MIA.
“A22 Sports Management initiated the mandatory procedure under Spanish law on November 21, ahead of legal action against UEFA in which it seeks compensation for damages suffered due to UEFA’s abuse of its dominant position as the monopolistic operator of European club football competitions,” the company’s statement reads.
“Despite clear rulings from three European courts, including the Court of Justice of the EU and the Spanish Court of Appeal, UEFA continues to maintain regulations and practices that directly contradict the court decisions. In violation of these rulings, UEFA now faces significant potential compensation claims from the clubs and from A22,” the statement adds.
Spanish media speculate that the lawsuit could be worth between four and five billion euros.
The European Super League project was relaunched in December last year, this time under the name United League.
