Romania’s women’s national basketball team was clearly defeated by Slovakia, 88–56 (17–19, 21–10, 18–10, 32–17), on Tuesday evening in Ploiești, in Group C of the first round of the EuroBasket 2027 qualifiers.

The Romanian team had a good first quarter (19–17), but was then clearly dominated by Slovakia, which steadily increased its lead on the scoreboard, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.

Romania held the lead for only 82 seconds in this game.

Katy Armanu stood out with 13 points and 5 rebounds, Ana Vîrjoghe had 8 points and 10 rebounds, Teodora Manea recorded 10 points and 5 rebounds, while Alexandra-Mălina Bobar added 9 points and 4 rebounds.

The best players for the visitors were Terezia Palenikova with 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists; Kyra Lambert with 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists; Rebeka Mikulasikova with 11 points and 3 rebounds; Nikola Dudasova with 11 points and 5 rebounds; Natalia Martiskova with 11 points and 3 rebounds; and Miroslava Mistinova (CS Rapid Bucharest) with 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.

In the other group match, Poland crushed Cyprus 96–52.

Poland leads the group with 6 points, followed by Slovakia with 5, Romania with 4, and Cyprus with 3.

The top two teams from each group, along with the best three third-placed teams (17 teams in total), will qualify for the second stage of the qualifiers.

Romania will play its next match on March 11 at home against Cyprus.
