The European Championship in Ship Model Sports for the ZMS Ivan Marinov Cup is taking place in the Lipnik Forest Park in Ruse on Saturday and Sunday, CE Report quotes BTA.

The event has been organized by the Ivan Marinov Club with the support of Ruse Municipality and the Bulgarian Federation for Ship Model Sports, the local government said in a press release.

Participants from Romania, Ukraine, and Bulgaria are competing with Class M radio-controlled model ships. The competition features boys, girls, men and women competing across 11 classes: Mini Eco, Eco Expert, Mini Mono, Mini Hydro, Mono 1, Hydro 1, Mono 2, Hydro 2, Team, FSR-E, and Mini FSR-E.

Among the most enthusiastic competitors are eight-year-old Veronika Mirova and seven-year-old Grigor Mirov from Varna, the youngest contestants in the event, who have inherited their passion for the sport from their grandfather and father.

The competition was officially opened on Saturday by Deputy Mayor Borislav Rachev, who presented the organizers with a congratulatory message from Mayor Pencho Milkov. Rachev thanked the participants for their effort and creativity in building their model ships, and for their commitment to developing and promoting the sport both in Ruse and nationally.

Ruse competitors, in turn, recalled the city’s long-standing traditions in ship modelling and the many awards it has brought home over the years. Club Chairman Krasimir Georgiev noted that the lake in the Lipnik Forest Park is among the most suitable venues for this sport in Europe.

The final races will be held on Sunday, when the champions will be determined.
