Albania invests over 1B to boost school sports and chess

The Council of Ministers decided on the amount of funding for the project “Sports Teams in Schools” within the framework of the Albanian Olympic movement and for activities related to the internationalization of sports by the Albanian National Olympic Committee (KOKSH), CE Report quotes ATA.

The government approved funding of 1,058,000,000 (one billion and fifty-eight million) lek for the “Sports Teams in Schools” project, within the framework of the Albanian Olympic movement of the Albanian National Olympic Committee (KOKSH), and additional funding of 200,000,000 (two hundred million) lek for activities aimed at the internationalization of sports under the same initiative.

According to the government’s decision, the funding is allocated as follows: 250,000,000 (two hundred and fifty million) lek from the 2022 budget funds; 350,000,000 (three hundred and fifty million) lek from the 2023 budget funds; 150,000,000 (one hundred and fifty million) lek from the 2024 budget funds; 200,000,000 (two hundred million) lek from the 2024 budget funds for the “Sports Teams in Schools” project and international sports activities; 308,000,000 (three hundred and eight million) lek from the 2025 budget funds for the “Sports Teams in Schools” project, of which 298,000,000 (two hundred and ninety-eight million) lek is allocated for the “Sports Teams in Schools” project and 10,000,000 (ten million) lek for chess, which is part of the same project.

The Ministry of Education and Sports and the Albanian National Olympic Committee are tasked with implementing this decision.

This decision enters into force after its publication in the Official Gazette.
