Maradona Medical Team Trial Suspended Near Buenos Aires
An Argentine court on the outskirts of Buenos Aires today canceled a court hearing to decide on the guilt of the medical team that cared for Diego Maradona.
The court hearing was canceled after one of the three judges in the case resigned, citing pressure from participating in a documentary about the case, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
The court could choose a new judge or cancel the current course of the trial, and chose the latter.
Among the seven defendants are Maradona's then-neurosurgeon, Leopoldo Luque, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, psychologist Carlos Angel Diaz, doctor Nancy Edith Forlini, clinical doctor Pablo Di Spagna and nurses who are being tried for involuntary manslaughter and, if found guilty, could be sentenced to between eight and twenty-five years in prison.
The eighth defendant, nurse Dahiana Madrid, is scheduled to be tried separately in July 2025.
Maradona died in November 2020 at his home from a heart attack. He died at the age of sixty while recovering from surgery to remove a blood clot.
