Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has held a conversation with FIFA President Gianni Infantino and renowned Ukrainian footballer Andriy Shevchenko.

Zelensky shared the news on Telegram, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.

"I spoke with FIFA President Gianni Infantino and football legend Andriy Shevchenko. Sport has a powerful impact on societies and nations around the world. We greatly value such a strong voice in support of Ukraine and the pursuit of a just and lasting peace," he wrote.

The head of state emphasized the importance of working together for peace, a swift ceasefire, and a dignified and fair end to the war. Diplomacy matters, he said.

According to Zelensky, Moscow must begin taking real steps toward ending the war, rather than imitating peace efforts.

"I thank you for supporting our people, Ukrainian athletes, and children. We are grateful that we can count on FIFA," he added.

Earlier, during an online meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ukrainian Association of Football, the President's Office coordinated actions to prevent Russia from participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
