Romania Tops EU Average in EU Funds Absorption
Romania has surpassed the EU average in absorbing European funds, reaching a 16.3% absorption rate compared to the Union's 11.4%, Minister of Investments and European Projects Dragos Pislaru announced Wednesday, CE Report quotes AGERPRES
Highlighting his first month in office, Pislaru said the country has received €5.64 billion for over 5,800 active projects, marking a sharp rise from under 5% last year. Romania now holds the second-highest absolute value of absorbed funds among EU member states.
He noted strong progress in key programs, with the Sustainable Development Program leading in Europe. Transport and social inclusion initiatives are also advancing, and regional programs like the North-West initiative show notable gains.
Pislaru assured that Romania faces no risk of losing cohesion funds in 2025, but warned that projects worth €6.3 billion may miss the August 2026 deadline under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). Around €8.7 billion remains viable, alongside resilience-related measures.
