Romania Mourns Pope Francis

Romania

Romania is observing a national day of mourning on Saturday, April 26, to honor Pope Francis, who passed away on Monday at the age of 88. The decision, announced by the government, coincides with the Pope's funeral at the Vatican, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu described the gesture as a sign of deep respect for the Pope's warmth and openness toward the Romanian people.

Flags are flown at half-mast across public institutions, cultural centers, and diplomatic missions, as well as at transportation hubs and on vessels under the Romanian flag. Media and cultural programming have also been adjusted in observance of the day.

Pope Francis will be buried at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, following a funeral service in St. Peter’s Square.
